Asahikawa, located in the center of Hokkaido at the foot of the vast Daisetsuzan National Park, is surrounded by rich forests and is a very favorable environment for the wood industry. Asahikawa Furniture has been working to reduce energy consumption for transporting wood as much as possible by increasing the use of familiar, high-quality Hokkaido hardwood, and to keep Hokkaido's forests in a sustainable cycle. This exhibition introduces a variety of Asahikawa furniture produced in Hokkaido's forests, focusing on the “Kokonoki no Kagu Hokkaido Project,” which was launched in 2014 as the centerpiece of these efforts and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2024. The exhibition also includes a bird's eye view of the forest environment in Japan and the world, which is directly related to global environmental issues, as well as a display of lumber before it is turned into furniture, and a video showing the process from the forest to furniture.
