In recent years, new movements have emerged—projects that elevate offcuts into value-added products through the power of design, one of Asahikawa furniture’s greatest strengths, and initiatives that focus on the long-term sustainability of forests. This exhibition brings together such efforts under the name “Up-Loop Action,” showcasing how Asahikawa furniture is carrying its traditions forward while embracing new challenges in pursuit of a more circular society. At the heart of this initiative lies the spirit of the Asahikawa Furniture Manufacturers’ Charter, established in 2007. “Built to last.” “In harmony with nature.” These enduring philosophies, consistently upheld by the makers of this region, hold greater meaning now than ever before.
